PROJECT OVERVIEW

Warrego Battery and Solar Farm is a proposed battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar farm located near Miles in the Western Downs region of Queensland. The project will provide renewable energy to the electricity grid. Upon completion, Warrego Battery and Solar Farm would deliver a 250MW / 1 GWh battery (with potential to expand to 1GW / 4GWh), clean energy to approximately 54,000 households and prevent up to 275,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere per year.

LOCATION

The Project site is located near Miles in the Western Downs Region of Queensland.

The site is adjacent to the Warrego highway and is within the AEMO's Renewable Energy Zone 4 – Darling Downs, as part of the wider Queensland Southern Renewable Energy Zone.

PROJECT STATUS

Warrego Battery and Solar Farm is in the early stages of development. It aims to receive planning approval from Western Downs Council. The planning approval considers environmental impacts, visual impacts, noise, traffic, construction and operation impacts and community feedback.
The BESS and solar farm will generate enough energy to power: approximately 54,000 houses annually when fully operational and prevent: approximately 275,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

About the project

Warrego Battery and Solar Farm welcomes the opportunity to work with residents and the community to address project concerns. You can submit questions here or attend our Community Meetings.

Warrego Battery and Solar Farm is a proposed renewable energy development located near Miles, in the Western Downs region of Queensland. Construction is expected to begin in 2025.

The Project will deliver a 250MW / 1GWh BESS (with potential to expand to 1GW / 4GWh) and 180MW of renewable solar energy to the national electricity grid, and contribute to the Queensland Government’s renewable energy generation target of 70% by 2032.

Once fully operational, Warrego Battery and Solar Farm will provide enough clean energy to power approximately 54,000 houses each year and prevent the emission of up to 275,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year.

The Project site is located near Miles, in the Western Downs Region of Queensland.

The Project will employ around 200 people during construction and 5 to 10 maintenance and operational staff once fully operational. A focus of the Project will be to secure local labour and materials.

Prior to, during, and after construction, the Project will contribute to the community in a targeted and meaningful way via a Community Benefit Fund.

COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND

A Community Benefit Fund is a pool of money set aside by Warrego Battery and Solar Farm to support projects and initiatives in local communities near the project.
Warrego Battery and Solar Farm will establish a pre-construction Community Benefit Fund for local projects. We welcome expressions of interest for projects that support Warrego Battery and Solar Farm's principles of building sustainable communities and enhancing the safety, health and well-being of local people. HOW CAN I MAKE A SUBMISSION FOR FUNDING?
An application form will be made available here once the Community Benefit Fund is established.
